Infrastructure

When the District was first formed in 1951 by the California state legislature, it was charged with the mission of conveying and disposing of flood waters, but it was not provided with the infrastructure to do so. Over the years, the District acquired the Clear Lake Water Company, and built Indian Valley Dam. The District now owns and operates two impoundment dams, one diversion dam, one hydroelectric plant, and a water distribution system that includes over 150 miles of canals. The dedicated staff work to repair, maintain, operate, and upgrade infrastructure to improve reliability and to better serve the community.

The interesting history and details of the District’s infrastructure can be found in the associated links.
